When a guy who’s played in the NFL gets a haircut, he says he’s ‘ready to rock’
A Florida Gators defensive back is in awe of his coach, who told him his hair would make him a better player if he just shaved off his top three locks.
Auburn defensive back Jalen Simmons has been in the spotlight for being one of the top recruiters in the country in his high school class.
He is rated the No. 1 recruit in Florida by Scout and Rivals.
Simmons has also earned all-conference accolades from the NFL Scouting Combine and SEC Scouting Combine.
But his coach has no time for the chatter.
“He’s one of my best friends and he is a very good man,” Simmons said of his mentor.
“If I want to go to Florida and make it big, I’ll have to shave my top three.
I’ve got to be better.””
So I just want to get to that point, get a haircut and just do what I need to do.
I’ve got to be better.”
The Florida Gators have already signed four players, including Simmons, and have an agreement to sign five more players.
It’s the first time the Gators have signed five players in consecutive years.
“It’s a big accomplishment, it’s a milestone,” Simmons told SEC Country.
“But I think that it will make me a better person.”
Simmons has been a standout in high school, starting all 13 games at cornerback for the Gators in 2017 and earning All-American honors from the Associated Press.
He has been the only player in Florida history to start all 13 seasons of his career.
